Farmville Dogwood Festival Logo Contest

2010 Festival We are looking for a logo!

The Town of Farmville Dogwood Festival Committee is looking for an innovative, creative and colorful logo for its 2010 Dogwood Festival to be held in April. The winning logo will receive a cash prize of $500.

Background: This year will be the 23rd year of the Festival. It is a family-oriented, fun filled weekend that showcases all Farmville has to offer in fulfillment of its brand "Experience our Community."

Specifications:
The logo must be easily reduced or enlarged in size (without loss of detail). It will be used on banners and signage (large), programs, cups (stadium size) and
t-shirts. It will also be displayed in various media formats such as newspaper and television.

The most popular logos in the past have incorporated the Dogwood Flower/Tree in the design using traditional colors. A four-color process is preferred. The t-shirt colors for 2010 will be lime green and sand. Approximate pantone colors for the shirts are: PANTONE 7528 C:43 M:0 Y:60 K:0; PANTONE 7488 C:0 M:3 Y:10 K:10

Please provide your design in a gif or tif format as an attachment to dogwoodfestival@farmville-nc.com by December 1st. If you have questions about the format or design, please send an email to this same address. Please specify the Pantone Colors used in the design. And, please provide the design in an approximate 3" x 4" size, suitable for a t shirt with the logo appearing on the front left pocket placement and a size suitable for placement on the backside of the t-shirt. The words" Farmville Dogwood Festival 2010" should be compatible with the design and either incorporated as a separate compatible design or as part of the logo itself. Please specify the font and colors you use.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Logo Contest

Q: Are the pantone colors for the shirts exact?
A: No, they are approximate for lime green and sand. Different manufacturers have slightly different dye lots so it is not possible to pinpoint the exact color now, but these are close enough to enable you to prepare a design appropriately and if you would like to include several color variations of the same design, that will be fine. Please note that on your entry.

Q: May I submit multiple designs?
A: The Committee did not specify an acceptable number of entries per person but a reasonable number of entires should be fine.

Q: Will I be able to claim credit for my design if it wins?
A: The Dogwood Festival is an event sponsored by the Town, a public entity, and will "own" the design for the festival for purposes of marketing and merchandising. Because we are a government entity, there is no prohibition with your use of it in your portfolio if you win. We will ask that you not use it on merchandise since we do sell merchandise with the event, but a portfolio is fine. The Committee may decide to draw up an agreement with the winner. If your design does not win, we would ask that you not use it on merchandise associated with the Town's event, but of course, you can use it in your portfolio.

Q: When will the winner be announced?
A: The Committee has set the date for entries to be submitted, but has not determined a schedule for the winner to be selected. They will be in touch with you.

Q: Will I get recognition at the event?
A: The specifics have not yet been determined but should your design be selected, the Committee will work with you on recognition for the contest. More details will be forthcoming.

Q: You state a four-color process. Can I do a three-color or two-color?
A: Certainly, however, please be aware that the Committee is seeking a colorful, creative design so color will be an important factor since the design is used for marketing and merchandising.

Q: Who will determine the winner?
A: The Dogwood Festival is operated by a Committee, appointed by the Mayor.

Q: Can you send me the Town's logo and seal in high-resolution so I can use them in the design?
A: The "Experience our Community" logo is available in green and blue. Green was used on the street flags. This logo will be available in high resolution on our front page in the next few days. We will also make available in high resolution our Town seal which may also be used with the design.

Q: Are their individuals I can contact who have attended so I can get a better feel for the event?
