In 1956, visionary civic leaders in Farmville created the Economic Development Council (EDC), one of the first in the state. Today, the organization, an incorporated 501c6 organized and incorporated under NC law, carries on the tradition of visionary leadership. Farmville is the second largest employer in Pitt County and is the new home of the North American headquarters of Alliance One International.
