Housing

The Farmville Affordable Homeownership Program (FAHP) is an effort by the Town of Farmville and the Farmville Housing Development Corporation (FHDC-a local non-profit) to produce affordable homeowners in Farmville. The Town of Farmville recognized the need for additional opportunities for low and moderate income families in Farmville. The Town implemented the FAHP in response to this need.

Farmville Housing Development Corporation, the local non-profit, was formed by the Town to sponsor and facilitate affordable housing programs. FHDC is controlled by its own Board of Directors comprised of local citizens from Farmville.

This program has produced 24 new homes for income eligible families. Continuing Phase Four of the program will bring 16 more homes. All of these homes will be constructed in a quiet subdivision the Town of Farmville has opened for development and boast a beautiful natural setting. All houses have 3 bedrooms with 1-1/2 or 2 bathrooms. The dwellings will have large kitchen-dining rooms, washer/dryer areas, living rooms, outside lockable storage room, front porches, rear or side entrances, paved driveways and front walkways. Energy efficient features include heat pump, thermal windows and doors. These structures meet Advanced Energy requirements for efficiency.

To be eligible a family cannot exceed 80% of the Pitt County median household income based on family size. HUD updates median household guidelines annually. Buyers will need a minimum down payment. Rental payments must be on time for the past 12 months and all debts current. FHDC accesses funding from North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, North Carolina Community Development Initiative and Pitt-Greenville Consortium to make the dream of owning a home in Farmville a reality.
