Parks & Recreation

The Recreation commission was installed to assist the Board of Commissioners and the Town Manager in the design and execution of the most appropriate for of recreation for all citizens, regardless of age, or talent, that exceeds what the community has the right to expect. The mission of this commission is to provide recreational activities, both athletic and non-athletic, to all age groups and all citizens thereby improving the quality of life in Farmville while meeting the needs of the community and gaining the maximum involvement of the citizens of Farmville.

Mission Statement

The Farmville Recreation and Parks Department shall contribute to the community through quality recreation programs, facilities, parks and open spaces. To accomplish this goal the staff shall:

Provide opportunities for fun by offering individual and family oriented activities.
Offer programs that enhance self-esteem and well being
Encourage and reward participation over abilities for novice participants.
Encourage an appreciation for the natural environment.
Provide quality athletic experiences appropriate to age and ability.
Ensure recreation opportunities for all ages and abilities.
Ensure responsible stewardship of our financial resources, park and natural areas

Youth Athletics

*Unless previously registered in an athletics program with this department, a copy of the participant's birth certificate is requires for any youth athletic program.

Farmville Little League Spring Baseball
Description: Baseball skills taught in a fun but competitive environment. Games played weekly with some traveling expected.
Location: Carl Ripkin and the Babe Ruth Fields
Ages: 7-8. 9-10, 11-12, 13-15

Youth Basketball
Description: An organized youth basketball program. Fundamental basketball skills stressed along with league play.
Location: Farmville Middle School
Ages: 7-8, 9-10, 11-13

Youth Football
Description: Fundamental football rules stress along with league play.
Location: Farmville Athletics Field
Ages: 8-12 with weight requirements
Fees: $30.00 and an additional $20.00 uniform deposit which will be refunded when the uniform is turned in. Total initial fee: $50.00

Adult Athletics

Summer Church Softball League
Description: Organized softball league consisting of local churches.
Location: Babe Ruth Field
Ages: 12 and over
Fees: $150.00 per team

Beginning Tennis
Description: This is for someone completely new to the game. All Strokes and rules of the game are taught. The emphasis is on learning basics, fun and playing independently.
Instructors: Wes Hankins, Wes Craft, and Jennifer Lewis
Location: Farmville Recreation Courts
Ages: 14 and over
Time: 9-11 am every other Saturday
Fees: None at this time

Yoga Classes
Description: A general yoga class designed for beginners to intermediates.
Instructor: Kristen 'O Keefe
Location: Farmville Community Center
Ages: 16 and over
Time: Thursday 6:00-7:00pm
Fees: $5.00 per class

Zumba Classes
Description: A fun filled fitness party for everyone. Exercise and not even know it. A fantastic hour of music and fitness all mixed into one that anybody can do.
Instructor: Trena Johnston
Location: Farmville Community Center
Ages: 12 and over
Time: Mondays from 7:15-8:15pm
Fees: $4.00 per class

Programs

Adult/Child CPR and First-Aid
Description: This class will certify people in basic Adult/Child CPR and First-Aid. Limited to 12 slots.
Instructors: Kelvin Yarrell
Location: Farmville Community Center
Ages: 15 and over
Time: TBA throughout the year
Fees: $60.00

Reserving a Picnic Shelter

In order to reserve a picnic shelter you must contact the Recreation and Parks Director between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am and 12:00 pm on Friday. To check availability, please call 753-6712.

Picnic Shelter Rules

NO ALCOHOLIC beverages allowed.
No open fires,use charcoal grills.
Leave hot coals in grills.
Must abide by city noise ordinance
Curfew for picnic shelters is dark.
Ball fields, tennis courts, and/or play equipment are not assumed to be reserved with shelter.
Please use appropriate parking lots. Special permission for access to a shelter is available upon request.
Please assist in the clean up of the facility.
