When should I call 9-1-1?

When you have an emergency for police, fire or if you need an ambulance. When you dial 911, your call will first go to the Pitt County 911 Center, then will be routed correctly. For a non-emergency police matter, you should dial (252)753-4111, which goes directly to Farmville Police Department’s communications center.

How do I obtain a police report?

Most reports may be obtained from the dispatcher in the lobby of FPD headquarters at any time.  Some special reports may have to be obtained from our records clerk Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. There is a $2 fee for each police report.

How do I take care of traffic tickets?

Most traffic tickets can be taken care of in one of two ways. Either you can see a magistrate (located at FPD Headquarters or the Pitt County Detention Center) to pay the fine or you can appear in court if you feel you are not guilty. Some traffic tickets require a mandatory court appearance even to plead guilty. If you are not sure, you can check by calling either of the magistrate offices.

Does the Police Department offer any special service for our elderly?

Yes.  We offer a service we refer to as R.U.O.K. (Are You OK?)  Simply, we have a list of elderly or infirmed citizens who call us each day to let us know they are alright.  If we do not hear from that citizen by a designated time we call them.  If we are unable to contact them, we then send an officer to check on their well-being.  If you would like to utilize this service for yourself or an elderly relative, simply call the police department that we might get the necessary information and add it to our list almost immediately.

How do I get a tour of Police Headquarters?

How do I obtain a restraining order?

Restraining orders or domestic violence orders are a function of the court system and you can find out more information by calling the Pitt County Clerk of Court at (252)695-7100.

When I am out of town for vacation, will FPD watch my home?

For many years, FPD has had a Home Watch program. Contact our dispatcher at (252)753-4111 and they will take the needed information. While you are away, officers will keep a special watch on your residence.

What makes a person or vehicle "suspicious"?

You can answer that question best. If something doesn't look right to you, it's worth having us check it out. Don't hesitate to call if you think something or someone is suspicious. If the person turns out to be okay, no harm done.  Just call (252)753-4111.

Does the Police Department provide a fingerprinting service for the public?

FPD does provide fingerprinting on a limited basis. There is no charge for fingerprinting for businesses or persons who reside within the city limits.  For those outside the city limits there is a $10 fee and you should call to find the best times based on the scheduling of our officers.

How can I report narcotics activity in my neighborhood?

You can dial (252)753-4111 to contact our Drug Officer.

Do I have to give my name if I want to report illegal activity?

It is always best if you can give your name and a dispatcher will probably ask for your name, but it is not necessary.  Just tell the dispatcher that you wish to remain anonymous.

Who is responsible for reporting a traffic accident?

North Carolina defines a "Reportable Crash" as follows:

Section 20-4.01.(33b) Reportable Crash. – A crash involving a motor vehicle that results in one or more of the following:

1. Death or injury of a human being.
2. Total property damage of one thousand dollars ($ 1,000) or more…

Farmville Police Officers, if called, will investigate accidents with damage less than $ 1,000 or accidents in public parking areas. These reports are forwarded to the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles and may affect your automobile insurance rates.

Who is responsible for reporting an accident to the insurance company?

There is no legal requirement for a driver to report to their insurance company that he/she has been involved in a traffic accident. The normal procedure is for driver involved to inform their insurance company of the accident. Your insurance agent will then guide you through the process of filing a claim. The accident report will have insurance information for all the parties involved. In the event the other driver does not notify their insurance company, you or your agent can forward a copy of the report to the insurance company.

Can I obtain a copy of a criminal record from the Police Department?

No. The Farmville Police Department does not maintain the disposition of criminal charges. A certified copy of an individual’s criminal history may be obtained from the Clerk of Court for a fee. The Pitt County Clerk of Court may be contacted at (252)695-7100.

Does Farmville provide animal control services?

Yes.  The Farmville Police Department does employee an animal control officer on a part-time basis.  For these services, call the police department at (252) 753-4111.
